Outlook express?
If the person that you want to reformat your drive doesn't know if you will lose your emails, THIS IS NOT THE PERSON YOU WANT WORKING ON YOUR HARD DRIVE.

If you wipe your disk with a formatting tool, All data will be lost that is on it.

However, from how you describe the question that the tech is asking, I'd get a second opinion regarding if you need to re-format to begin with.
Reply:I think it will be there!!!!

It seems the shopman dont want to take any risk so he told u 50/50.....OK
Reply:If you have save all of your e-mail within the e-mail program then you can only backup these files one at a time. If, on the other hand you save your messages outside of the e-mail client by clicking "File/Save ***", the all you need do is to save or back up the folder that contains these files.

Everything in the e-mail program will be lost when you format.
Reply:This Microsoft article explains exactly how to backup and restore the email for outlook express.

Reply:YEs they will be gone....Everything gets erased during a format....

you would need to back em up on a disk or maybe if its still possible, save them back to the email server then redownload them...
Reply:The emails will be lost. Mine on hotmail are not lost but the others are.
Reply:If the pc shop really told you this, you need to find another shop that knows what they are doing, or get a friend that is in the business to take a look at it.

Its pc shops like this that give IT specialists a bad name.
Reply:no if you remformat the drive everything will be gone. Thats why you should always do backups.
