Express in terms of x and y:?

If log 4 =x and log 5 =y, express each of the following in terms of x and y:

a) log 25

b) log (5/4)

c) log (sqrt 20)

Express in terms of x and y:?
log4=x, log5=y

a)log25=log(5x5)=log5+log5,=y+y, =2y

b)log(5/4)=log5-log4, =y-x

c)log(rt20)=log(rt5)(rt4), =log rt5 +log rt4, =rty+rtx

I'm not positive about c)

Intro Calculus (grade/year 11) question. Equations in form: y=mx+c...?

Express each of the following equations in the form y=mx+c

a) 3x-2y=12

b). 4y-5=2x+5

c). 3(x-1)=4(y+2)

d). x/3+y/6=1

Question 2:

Find the gradient, x-intercept and y-intercept of the line

x/a+y/b=1 where a and b are constants

Question 3: Solve the following simultaneous equations algebraically:

3x-2y=12 and 2x-5y=19

Question 4: Factorise the following functions completely:

a). f(x)=x^2-3x-10

b). g(x)=2x^2-7x+3

c). h(x)=3x^2-7x-6

Thankyou. Please clearly show all of the working out and which question and answer each one is (question 1, 2, 3 or 4 and a b or c of each).

Thanks.

Intro Calculus (grade/year 11) question. Equations in form: y=mx+c...?
are you trying to get strangers to do your homework?

the first questions are all just a matter of basic algebra.

1a) 3x-2y=12

subtract 3x from both sides:

-2y=12-3x

divide by -2

y=-6+(3/2)x

re-arrange

y=(3/2)x-6

voila! m=(3/2) b=6

you can do parts b,c,d on your own unless someone else answers them for you.

Question 2:

the y intercept is where x=0

0/a+y/b=1

y/b=1

multiply by b

y=b

the x intercept is where y=0

same thing:

x/a+0/b=1

x/a=1

multiply by a

x=a

for the gradient (slope) we need to get into y=mx+b form

again just algebra

x/a+y/b=1

subtract x/a

y/b=1-x/a

multiply by b

y=b-(b/a)x

gradient=b/a

Question 3:

solve algebraically,

3x-2y=12

2x-5y=19

there's a number of ways to do this, I'm not sure which you are familiar with. My personal favorite is cancellation

multiply the first equation by 2 and the second by three to get

6x-4y=24

6x-15y=57

now subtract the two equations:

0x+11y=-33

divide by 11

y=-3

now substitute y=-3 back into one of the equations

3x-2(-3)=12

3x+6=12

subtract 6

3x=6

divide 3

x=2

the solution is x=2, y=-3

Question 4

I'm going to be naughty and not explain myself on these it's late and I'm tired

a)(x+5)(x-2)

b)(2x-1)(x-3)

c)(3x+2)(x-3)

ta daa!

What's wrong with my P.C.?

I just purchased a Compaq EVO D500 1.6 GHZ Desktop P.C. on eBay, and I can't get any video output. The seller told me to send the computer back, and if it was defective, that he would refund my money. It didn't come with a hard drive, so I used one of my own. I'm guessing that it has a bad video card, because the BIOS gave me one short beep, then two long beeps, and I didn't see any video. It has a PCI express video card, which I could replace, but I don't know how. I've never installed a PCI express card. Could there even be something worse wrong with my P.C.? Should I risk sending it back?

What's wrong with my P.C.?
Buying on eBay for these weighing 3 kg thing is very risky, but my entire computer save the case and PSU is indeed assembled from various eBay sellers. Computers do not need hard drives to even running normally as a Home Theatre PC. Sending back costs fierce but might be good idea for you don't even know how to put in a card.
Reply:send it back for refund, could be mobo, graphic card or cpu.
Reply:1) I'd never buy anything from Compaq.

2) It could be a bad motherboard or a bad video card.

I'd send it back, and buy something locally. Sometimes the item with the lower price costs more.

How to execute C program?
...and if there *WERE* direct support for Outlook Express, why would I choose to do your work for you? You can probably accomplish this using C and the Win32 and / or Win32s API (Application Programming Interface). That should give you a flying start, together with the tutorials available from the URL below.

Find the two common tangents of y=-x^2 and y=Ax^2+C?

Consider the parabolas y=x^2 and y=Ax^2+C, where A and C are positive constants. FOr a given choice of A and C there will be exactly two common tangents (each line is tangent to both parabolas), symmetrically placed with respect to the y-axis.

a) Find the points of tangency on each parabola and the equations of the common tangents, each expressed in terms of A and C.

b) Find the points and tangent lines for the particular values A=3 and B=12, for the parabola y=3x^2+12.

To anyone who could solve this..thank you and God bless you. %26gt;_%26lt;

Find the two common tangents of y=-x^2 and y=Ax^2+C?
The two eqns f(x) = x^2 and g(x) = Ax^2 + C are clearly parabolas.

f(x) has its vertex at (0, 0) and g has vertex (0, C). Therefore f and g intersect only if g is “flat” otherwise f would always be on the outside of g. That is, the coefficient of x^2 in fcn f(x) is 1; as a result, the only way these two fcns could ever intersect is if A %26lt; 1. I.e. g(x) is “flat”.

Furthermore, the graphs share tangent lines only where they intersect; so, the two graphs intersect at x^2 = Ax^2 + C

x^2 - Ax^2 = C

x^2(1 – A) = C

x = +/- sqrt [ C/(1- A)]

Thus, the points of tangency are

Point 1: x = sqrt [C/(1- A)] and y = C/(1- A)

Point 2: x = - sqrt [C/(1- A)] and y = C/(1- A)

The slope of the tangent line is then dy/dx = 2x

So slope m1 = 2 sqrt [ C/(1- A)] and slope m2 = - 2 sqrt [ C/(1- A)].

Let’s make things easier and call k = C/(1 – A)

Therefore the eqn of the tangent line at Point 1 is

y – k = 2sqrt(k)[ x – sqrt (k)]

y – k = 2sqrt(k)x – 2k

y = 2sqrt(k)x – k

The eqn of the tangent line at Point 2 is

y – k = - 2sqrt(k)[ x – sqrt (k)]

y – k = - 2sqrt(k)x + 2k

y = - 2sqrt(k)x + 3k

Now replace k and simplify.

God knows they would rather see other people sacrificed, rather than themselves. They try to rationalize the guilt away by saying the Iraqi's are happy to be liberated from a dictator. When all their "liberation" has done is destabilize the entire country and cause a civil war, which the people who started this bloody war knew would happen, that was the plan. Yet the faithful will never admit to this, for their own peace of mind. They must defend these lies to defend their own cowardice. Sad.

How would you express a 45 degree rotation matrix as a 3 x 3?

I'm looking for an example of a real 3 x 3 matrix such that A^8=1, but A^4 does not equal 1. Am I correct that if C were such a 2 x2 rotation matrix, then matrix C would be the following:

(sqrt2)/2..... (-sqrt2)/2

(sqrt2)/2..... (sqrt2)/2

Can I express this as a 3 x 3 by adding a 1 in upper right corner and some zeros to make it 3 x 3 like this:

1 .................. 0 ................ 0

0 ......... (sqrt2)/2 ......... -sqrt2/2

0 ........ (sqrt2)/2 ......... sqrt2/2

I'm reasoning the determinants would be the same and the characteristic polynomial for the 3 x 3 would be (t-1)det(C).

I'm interested in any other 3 x 3 real matrices where A^8=1 but A^4 does not =1 as well. Thank you.

How would you express a 45 degree rotation matrix as a 3 x 3?
Everything you have said above is correct.

Also you could use a rotation in the opposite direction:

(1/√2 1/√2)

(-1/√2 1/√2)

Also to change it to 3 by 3 you could put the one (and extra zeros) in any position along the main diagonal.

Additionally you could rotate by 3Ï€/4 or 5Ï€/4 or 7Ï€/4 (note that 7Ï€/8 is same as -Ï€/8 and that 5Ï€/4 is -3Ï€/4).

So all up you have 4 different rotations possible and can place the one in 3 different places so a total of 12 solutions based on rotation matrices derived from two by two matrices.

Note that putting the 1 in the first row makes a matrix which rotates in the yz plane. Putting the 1 in the middles makes a matrix which rotates in the xz plane and putting 1 bottom right makes a matrix which rotates in the xy plane.

So there are also an infinite number of solutions which perform rotations in arbitary other planes.

You can see how you can generate one rotated in any plane on the wikipedia link I have provided below.

Determine objective and constraint equations. Express quantity to be minimized as a function of x. Optimal of?

You have an open rectangukar box with a square base. Consider the problem of finding the values of x and h for which the volume is 32 cubic feet and the total surface are of the box is minimal. (The surface area is the sum of the five faces of the box.)

A. Determine the objective and constraint equations.

B. Express the quantity to be minimized as a function of x.

C. Find the optimal values of x and h.

Determine objective and constraint equations. Express quantity to be minimized as a function of x. Optimal of?
I'm going to label length "L" instead of "x"

Constraint:

V = 32 = L * L * h (L=w because the base is square)

Objective:

SA = L*L + 4*L*h (only one L*L because the box is open)

so 32/L^2 = h

therefore SA = L^2 + 4*L*(32/L^2)

= L^2 + 128/L

Take the derivative and find the critical points in order to optimize:

SA' = 2L - 128/L^2 = 0

2L(1 - 64/L^3) = 0

1 = 64/ L^3

L = 4

V = 32 = L * L * h

so 16h = 32

h = 2

Hope this helps you understand optimization a little better.

Based on the inverse property of ln and e, ln e^C = C

Can anyone express 5logc x+logcy-2logcz as a single logarithm?

Can anyone express 5logc x+logcy-2logcz as a single logarithm?

That c is below the log (kind of like square root is above a number).

Can anyone express 5logc x+logcy-2logcz as a single logarithm?
logc(x^5*y/z^2)
Reply:logc ((x^5y)/z^2).

That is, x to the 5th power times y, all divided by z squared.

Q1:A spherical uniform charge distribution of total charge +0.02 C and radius 3cm is placed at the origin?

Q1:A spherical uniform charge distribution of total charge +0.02 C and radius 3cm is placed at the origin of the x, y, z co-ordinate system, and an electron is located at position (-2, 0, 0) cm . The electron is moved to a new position, (5, 4, 5) cm. Assume that the zero position for the electric potential is at infinity.

(a) Find the potential at the two positions of the electron, and the potential difference between them.

(b)Does the electron gain or lose potential energy in moving to the new position?

(c)How much potential energy is gained or lost? Express the answer both in electron Volts and Joules.

Q1:A spherical uniform charge distribution of total charge +0.02 C and radius 3cm is placed at the origin?
position 1 the electron is inside the sphere of charge

Use Gauss law to get the E-field (you need to work out the fraction of charge Q enclosed by your spherical gauss surface -its radius =2cm)

4*pi*r^2*E=Q*r^3/(eo*R^3)..Q=0.02C r=2cm R=3cm etc

%26gt;E=Q*r/(4*pi*eo*R^3)

%26gt;V1=-Q*r^2/(8*pi*eo*R^3)+ const integrating (E=-dV/dr)

Const=V at r=0=3*Q/(8*pi*eo*R) (this requires proof btw!)

%26gt;V1=3*Q/(8*pi*eo*R)- Q*r^2/(8*pi*eo*R^3)

Next bit looks simple

V2=-Q/(4*pi*eo*r) r=sqrt(5^2+4^2+5^2) since your charge distrib is spherically symnetrical (remember to convert cm to metres)

a) Now just subtract after inserting values (1/(4*pi*eo)=10^9)

b) loses? ..work it out!

c) change in Ep= (V2-V1)*electron charge for joules

and just equal to V2-V1 for electron volts

Oulook Express file recovery ( *.dbx )?

I have moved Outlook Express Data file ( more than 100 *.dbx files ) from one pc ( pc name : 1'st ) to another P.C ( 2'nd ) via Local Area Connections.

After that i have verified outlook Express files moved or not. Yes it is moved correctly to the 2'nd pc.

Note : The 2'nd pc does not contain any outlook express data, e-mail account etc.,

Now In 2'nd pc I opened outlook express %26amp; i selected the Store Folder, Clicked the Change. Now I selected the Location where i moved the files from 1'st pc.

After that i closed Outlook Express %26amp; re-loaded. Now there is no e-mail in outlook Express, So i closed outlook express.

I once i again i verify the moved folder, it shows only 5 - 6 files in that.

Please reply how to get my .dbx files which is more that 100 files. Please reply

Oulook Express file recovery ( *.dbx )?
Use Import wizard with File -%26gt; Import. Choose Messages. Select "Microsoft Outlook Express 6". Then "Import mail from an OE6 store directory." ( This is the location of your dbx files )

It should work .

What is the minimum value of c for which the man will catch the bus?

i found out that:

x(man)t(catch)=x(bus)t(catch)

and

-b+ct(catch)=(1/2)at^2(catch)

A man is running at speed c (much less than the speed of light) to catch a bus already at a stop. At t=0 , when he is a distance b from the door to the bus, the bus starts moving with the positive acceleration a .

Use a coordinate system with x=0 at the door of the stopped bus.

So,

What is the minimum value of c for which the man will catch the bus?

Express the minimum value for the man's speed in terms of a and b ?

PLEASE clear explanations...thanks

What is the minimum value of c for which the man will catch the bus?
Let's start with the man having constant velocity

x(t)=-b+c*t

the bus has

x(t)=.5*a*t^2

when the x(t)'s are equal, we have a catch

-b+c*t=.5*a*t^2

this is a quadratic, if there is a catch, there will be a real, positive root

0=.5*a*t^2-c*t+b

the roots are

(c^2+/-sqrt(c^2-2*a*b))/a

the smaller root will be

(c^2-sqrt(c^2-2*a*b))/a

The larger root occurs if the man runs past the bus and the bus accelerates back to him.

This requires that

(c^2-2*a*b)%26gt;=0

logc [(x^5)y/(z^2)]
Reply:5log(c)x + log(c)y - 2log(c)z

log(c)(x^5) + log(c)y - log(c)(z^2)

log(c)((x^5y)/(z^2))
Reply:logc(x^5y/z^2). Use your log rules to simplify it. Addition of logs is same as multiplication inside the log, and subtraction is division. A constant as in n log (a) would be log(a^n).

How do I have 2 inbox in outlook express?

I currently have 2 email a/c which i had extract it to my outlook express however, both users' email all going inside the same inbox.

How do I separate so all the email wont get mix up?

How do I have 2 inbox in outlook express?
To separate the email received for the two accounts you could create rules (perhaps based on the email addresses) to separate the mails into two folders.

Message -%26gt; Create New Rule From Message
Reply:Thumbs up miso. I have five email addresses, all going into their own boxes. I also have separate boxes set up for friends and every time I get a message from them, it does into their own box.

What do you think of these words from the pen of C.S. Lewis (quoting Matthew Arnold), and from Sundar Singh?

C. S. Lewis and Sundar Singh happened to express the same idea about the relationship between wishes and truth. Sundar Singh taught that every desire we have is given for a special purpose, and we would have no desire to believe in God unless he exists. "The capacity for religion is . . . rather like thirst . . . Just as thirst has been created to make men use water, so the religious thirst has been created to make men come to God." In comparison, Lewis wrote: "But what does the existence of the wish [for God] suggest? At one time I was much impressed by Arnold's line 'Nor does the being hungry prove that we have bread.' But surely, tho' it doesn't prove that one particular man will get food, it does prove that there is such a thing as food! i.e. if we were a species that didn't normally eat, weren't designed to eat, would we feel hungry?"

What do you think of these words from the pen of C.S. Lewis (quoting Matthew Arnold), and from Sundar Singh?
i'm with you on that. the fact that we have a spiritual impulse and spiritual experiences (even without religious dogma) is proof to me that there is a spiritual side of life that is related to, and interacts with, but is distinct from the physical world.

there's more to human experience than science.
Reply:Oh, God exists alright. Its just that God is not an anthropomorphic figure in the sky, not a master puppeteer with a penchant for behaving like a middle-eastern iron-age megalomaniacal sadist.

I think that C.S. Lewis and Sundar Singh are on very squishy logical ground - and the LOGOS (and that does not mean the "word") is God. I think that the wish for their sort of "God" is indicative of the failure, common to most illusion-bound mortals, of intellect and nerve. We humans being are temporal. The sooner one understands that truth, the sooner one is liberated.

Sorry to be the one to tell you that Santa Claus is dead, but you asked.
Reply:My favorite line from C. S. Lewis is "What do they teach them in these schools?"
Reply:Great question! To me that means our desire to live on after death proves that somehow some part of us will. That's basically what all religions boil down to - they quell the fear of nonexistence.
Reply:Non sequitor.

-Biological organisms REQUIRE food and water.

-You can live a full happy life without religion.
Reply:I think you are reading deep stuff here. I am impressed with you.

I do like the though also.

thanks for sharing it.
Reply:"we would have no desire to believe in God unless he exists."

Correct, that's why Thor exists. And Batman.

I'm trying to determine how to express cost as a function of X for a math problem my son is working on.?

The problem is as follows: the cost of a phone call is based on paying $9.50 for the first three minutes and $2.00 per minute each additional minute or fraction thereof. How do you express this in an algebra equation (i.e., C(x) = ??????).

I'm trying to determine how to express cost as a function of X for a math problem my son is working on.?
A cost function should look like this:

Total cost = Rate per additional minutes x Number of additional minutes + Cost for first 3 minutes or:

C(x)=2(x-3)+9.50
Reply:i dont know, so here is a website you can go to

www.homework help.com

good luck!
Reply:C(x)=7.50(3-x)

C(x)=9.50(x)+2(x-3)

C(x)=4.75(x-1)

C(x)=9.50(y)+2(x-3)

C(x)=9.50x+2(x-3)

C(x)=9.5(3-x)+2(x-3)

C(x)=9.5y+2(x-y)

Actually, i think it is:

C(x)=9.50+2(x-3)

but I can't figure out how to twist it to work for a 1 or 2 minute call.

Express y as Function of x?

Express y as a function of x. The constant C is a positive number.

(1) In y = In(x + C)

(2) In y = 2In x - In(x + 1) + InC

Express y as Function of x?
1. since you have ln on both sides, you can "remove it".

ln a = ln b, then a = b

therefore

y = x + C

2. you have to simplify the RHS using the properties of logarithms.

it gives you:

ln (x^2) - ln (x + 1) + ln C = ln (x^2)/(x+1) + ln C =

ln (Cx^2) / (x + 1)

so you have:

ln y = ln (Cx^2) / (x + 1), and just like in 1. you can remove ln:

y = (C*x^2) / (x + 1)

check properties of logarithms here:

http://www.google.com/search?q=propertie...

Cheers,

Kempos
Reply:(1) =%26gt; e^(ln y) = e^ (ln(x + C))

=%26gt; y = x + C

(2) =%26gt; ln y = ln(x^2) - ln(x + 1) + ln C

=%26gt; ln y = ln([(x^2)*C]/[x + 1])

=%26gt; y = C(x^2)/(x+1)

Not sure how clear this is... will be much clearer on paper, but hope this helps...

Express y As A Function of x.?

For each question below, express y as a function of x. The constant C is a positive number.

QUESTIONS:

(1) In y = In(x + C)

(2) In y = 2 In x - In(x + 1) + In C

NOTE: In is the natural log.

Express y As A Function of x.?
Note:

e^(ln w) = w.

Insert both sides in the exponential function.

Property of the ln function:

r ln a = ln (a^r)

ln a + ln b = ln (ab)

ln a - ln b = ln (a/b)...

Thus ln a + ln b - ln c = ln(ab/c). Use that for question (2).

d:
Reply:in the first one we get y=x+c

in the second one y=x^2*c/(x+1) (using formulae of logarithms)
Reply:you need to practice workin with logs and exponents:
Reply:(1) y = x + c

(2) lny = ln [(x^2)c/(x + 1)]

y = (x^2)c/(x + 1)

Calculate q when 5.32 g of ice is cooled from -37.8°C to -76.3°C (c of ice = 2.087 J/g·K).?

Calculate q when 5.32 g of ice is cooled from -37.8°C to -76.3°C (c of ice = 2.087 J/g·K). Express your answer in scientific format: 1.25 x 103 = 1.25E3

Calculate q when 5.32 g of ice is cooled from -37.8°C to -76.3°C (c of ice = 2.087 J/g·K).?
q = m x Cp x ∆T

∆T = (-37.8 + 273.15) - (-76.3 + 273.15) = 235.35 - 196.85 = 38.5K

= 5.32 g x (2.087 J / gK) x (38.5K)) = 427.5 J = 4.275 x 10² J

since you have only three sig figs....

answer is 4.28 x 10² J

Can I check my mail with a VBScript or a C++/pascal program?

Can I check my mail by accesing Outlook Express via a VB Script or a C++/Pascal Program?Thanks

Can I check my mail with a VBScript or a C++/pascal program?
Outlook and other mail client programs are written using languages such as VB and C++ or c#. So the answer is yes. You need to know te SMTP protocals and the mail server requirements for logging in as a mail user and write your program to properly send those.
Reply:With C++:

It's very possible depending on what email service you're using. :)
