If F=9/5 C+32, what temperature is -40C expressed in degrees fahrenheit?

Amusing enough, -40 °F. Just substitute C by -40 in the (correct) formula you provided, and calculate.

Reply:-40 is -40 in F and C.
Reply:-40 deg F = -40 deg C

This is the one temperature where the two scales read the same number.
Reply:It would be -40F.

The way my meteorology professor taught us to calculate temps without dealing with fractions is this:

To get Celsius

(F - 32) / 1.8

To get Fahrenheit

(C * 1.8) + 32
Reply:Yup, -40C = -40F
