Express the function (or rule) f(x) = (1/3x - 2)(square root) in words.
a. Subtract 2, then take the square root
b. Divide by 3, then subtract 2
c. Divide by 3, then square
d. Divide by 3, subtract 2, then take the square root`
e. Divide by 3, take the square root, then subtract 2
Express the function:in words.?
d.
first off, you do anything in perentheses first.
follow PEMDAS, also known as the order of operations.
P = perentheses
E = exponent
M = multplication
D = division
A = addition
S = subtraction
multiplication/division can be interchangeable, as can addition and subtraction.
you can't go wrong :)
Reply:Hi,
I'm not sure what you want here. It seems that you want just the opposite of what you asked.
I would guess that the answers would be the following:
a: f(x) = sqrt(x - 2)
b: f(x) = (x - 3) / 2
c: f(x) = (x / 3)²
d: f(x) = sqrt((x / 3) - 2)
e: f(x) = sqrt(x / 3) - 2
*************
Okay, now I get it. The answer is d.
James :-)
